Badger Surveys
Badgers are nationally protected, but have a healthy population and distribution across the country. The basic survey for Badgers involves a search for field signs (such as dung pits, hairs, tracks and setts) within the proposed site, and up to 30m beyond its boundary.
If Badger setts are found there are a number of additional surveys that may be required such as stick and sand surveys to determine what species is using a burrow and how often it is used, bait marking to determine family groups and meta-populations and torch surveys to determine precise numbers and foraging areas. Licences to disturb or close a Badger sett are generally only allowed between July and November. As well as applying for such licences we also design methodologies to avoid the need for licencing.
